Management Information System

In today’s digital world, Information Systems (IS) play a fundamental role in supporting business operations, decision-making, and strategic planning. To understand how organizations thrive in an information-driven environment, we must first explore the core concepts that form the foundation of IS.

This includes understanding what information is, how systems work through modeling, and what makes up an information system. An Information System is not merely technology—it is a combination of people, processes, data, and digital tools that work together to collect, process, store, and disseminate information. Within this broader category, Management Information Systems (MIS) focus specifically on supporting managerial functions by providing timely, accurate, and relevant information for effective decisions.

However, as we harness these systems, we must also address ethical and social issues such as privacy, data security, and the digital divide. Lastly, the development of these systems involves structured methodologies and lifecycle models, which ensure systems are built effectively to meet organizational needs. Why MIS is important?

Dr. Khairol Anuar Ishak is currently as Program Manager at Professional & Continuing Education Centre (PACE), UUM. He have joined UUM since 2004 and has appointed as Coordinator for Student Co-curriculum for PACE from 2006 until 2008. He was appointed as the Deputy Dean, School of Business Management (SBM) for the year of 2018 and Head of Department for the year of 2017. In cultivating student activities, he has appointed as Club Advisor of Management Executive Club (MEC) to set-up new committees members in this club. He earned her PhD from the USM in franchising management field and has been lecturing in various areas in management such as Management, Organizational Behavior, Research Method, Management Ethics and Management Information System.

He also has over 8 years working experiences in warehouse management, inventory management control, sales and marketing with MODENAS and EMOS. He has a high passion and actively involved in academic research and writing activities as well as consultation projects. As an active researcher, he has lead several research projects funded by FRGS and internal grants. The results from various researches were presented at international conferences and published in indexed journals. His areas of research interest include performance measurement, franchising management, relationship marketing, relationship quality, e-learning, Management information system and strategic management.
